Detailed overview

Marking the 1914-18 centenary this display of over 10,000 ceramic poppies is part of the final year of the UK wide tour of the iconic poppies.  Hosted at Fort Nelson, part of a large ring of forts built to defend the naval base of Portsmouth, the sculpture rises from the impressive ramparts – an inspiring location for visitors to reflect 100 years on.  Fort Nelson was home to some of Kitchener’s volunteer army during the First World War. It now displays artillery pieces from the Royal Armouries collection.
